At 9 a.m. Friday morning, South St. Paul police were called to a scene near Roosevelt Field, in the 500 block of Fifth Avenue South, on a report of a shooting.

According to a statement by Police Chief William Messerich, they met a male there who said three other males had shot at him and then fled on foot.

The person shot at was not injured.

Department, St. Paul Police Department and the Minnesota State Patrol searched the area

The incident launched the second mutual-aid multiple-department callout, with the Inver Grove Heights, West St. Paul and St. Paul Police departments as well as the Minnesota State Patrol sending personnel to search the area for evidence.

Police were able to determine the identity of one suspect, who is in custody and the Department is actively searching for additional suspects.

Messerich assured the public the shooting "was not a random act as the suspects and victim are known to each other."

No names or ages of any of the parties have been released, as South St. Paul and the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office are also conducting a further investigation related to the incident.
