Helping your snowplow driver

Roseville plows 125 miles and nearly 70 miles of sidewalks and pathways after each snow event. Snowplow drivers ask residents to help them complete their routes as quickly and safely as possible.
Do:
• Help operators avoid trash or recycling containers; place containers in the driveway, not in the street or on the pathway. Garbage hauler arms extend up to six feet to pick up a container, so no need to get too close to the street.
• Stay at least four car lengths behind a snowplow. Plows can create dangerous snow clouds and can throw chucks of snow, ice and debris.
• Expect maintenance vehicles to back up frequently.
• Be patient...a snowfall of 4” takes 8 to 10 hours to plow and apply ice control.
• Shovel in front of your mailbox-the post office will not deliver mail if they cannot get close enough to reach the mailbox from their vehicle.
• Call 651-792-7004 to report hazardous conditions or to get information related to snow plowing.
• Review the City’s Snow and Ice Policy available at: www.cityofroseville.com/snowicepolicy
Don’t:
• Do not assume plow drivers see you--their field of vision is limited.
• Do not pass a snowplow on the right. Snowplows push snow and spread ice control to the right
• Do not allow children to play in the streets or to build tunnels or forts in snow banks along streets and driveways.
• Do not put trash cans or recycling bins in the street. Snowplow drivers cannot stop or drive around the bins, and your bins could end up down the street.
