Gymnastics: Tartan edges Polars in close match

The Tartan Titans came to North Jan. 16 to display their gymnastics talents in front of a near-standing-room-only crowd of appreciative fans.

In the end the Titans—despite a one-point deduction for an athlete performing out of order on the beam—was able to pull off a close 120.7 - 119.875 triumph over their School District 622 archrival Polars.

“This is definitely a season high for us this year,” stated Tartan head coach Lisa Heart. “I’m proud of our kids and the way they have performed tonight. They have put in a lot of hard work and it shows tonight in the effort they put forth.”

North coach Krissy Boyd concurred with the comments made by her counterpart. “This is our best meet of the season. We did well in each event and the kids have responded to the competitions. I’m very pleased with our performances tonight. Especially the display by Madi Brenhofer.”

Brenhofer, just a ninth-grader, was the best athlete of the night and took top honors in the all-around with a point total of 32.55 in the four events in which she competed.

Next up,  the Titans will be on the road for a Jan. 23, match at Richfield. They stay on the road to meet Mahtomedi Jan. 30.

North will face Simley Jan. 23 and prepare for the Classic Suburban Conference championships Feb. 3, which will be held at Simley.

All CSC matches are 6:30 p.m. scheduled starts.
