Former SAVHS standout Lawson off and running again

Another sport that doesn’t jump immediately to mind in January is track and field but for a St. Anthony Village High School alumnus, the season is in full swing.

Chris Lawson, a 2012 St. Anthony graduate, is a member of the College of St. Scholastica men’s track and field team that has started the indoor season already. Lawson and his teammates ran at the Blue Devil Invitational on Saturday in Menomonie, Wisc.

Lawson finished second in the mile run, behind only a teammate who edged him out by six-hundreths of a second.

A week earlier at the Super 8 Invitational in Bemidji, Lawson finished second in the 3,000 meters.

In addition to running track, Lawson is also on the cross country team at St. Scholastica, which is located in Duluth. Last fall, Lawson was the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference individual champion and helped lead the Saints to the team title. His time of 26:37.8 was 38 seconds faster than the runner-up.

Lawson also led the Saints two weeks later at the Division III Central Regional with a 36th-place finish.

During his freshman season, Lawson finished second at the UMAC championship meet.
