Key to a happy home at Homestead at Maplewood is you

Transitional care clinical nurse manager Angie Renel and Homestead at Maplewood resident Evelyn Gipp prepare for an outing.

Looking for housing that meets your needs in the next chapter of life shouldn’t carry the added stress of finding a place where you fit in.

Fortunately, the staff of Homestead at Maplewood recognizes the key to a happy home isn’t some secret formula devised in a strategy meeting — it’s in the memories, relationships and interests that each resident brings along when they move in.
“You don’t come here and conform to us,” explains Dana Rossbach, housing coordinator at Homestead. “You come here and we conform to you.”

The goal at Homestead, according to Rossbach, is to allow residents to establish their own rhythms and preferences at the Maplewood campus. That way, the living space reflects the people who live there, and not some corporate idea of home.

“Our honest focus is to make this your home,” Rossbach says. “It’s not a home-like setting — this is home.”

Comforts of home

Homestead residents can select the space that suits them best from a selection studios, one and two-bedroom apartments, and while Homestead allows residents the flexibility and comfort they’re used to in a home setting, it also comes with a few additional advantages. Residents receive housekeeping and laundry services and the campus features on-site amenities like a salon and a dining center that serves meals restaurant style.

On top of that, residents can participate in regular activities, outings, Bible studies and non-denominational church services. And if residents are looking for a service or activity not already offered, they can raise the subject at one of the monthly community meetings with staff.

In fact, resident input at community meetings recently launched a new range of exercise activities at Homestead at Maplewood with options for every range of fitness and mobility. Many residents participate in a walking program that tracks their mileage with celebrations for destinations reached, while others participate in an advanced exercise program featuring weights and bands. There’s also the increasingly popular Whoga—yoga for standing or wheelchair-using participants—the effectiveness of which Rossbach can personally attest.

“I’ve done it myself, and you do get a workout,” she laughs.

Residents also have priority access to the Maplewood Care Center, conveniently located on the same campus as Homestead. The Maplewood Care Center offers transitional care services as well as long-term care in a safe and welcoming environment.

The Care Center also offers a full range of therapy services to help clients achieve and maintain the quality of life they deserve.

Meeting every need

Besides the amenities, Homestead also offers a full range of care for residents, from assisted living to memory care and end-of-life services.  In-house registered nurses work with residents to determine their preferred level of assistance and health care services, and each resident receives his or her own personal emergency pendant to ensure they’re not alone when help is needed.

But according to Rossbach, the most important aspect of life at Homestead at Maplewood is the relationships that grow between neighbors, activity partners, visitors and staff.

“Every resident here is included in this community,” Rossbach says.
