New Brighton council member Brian Strub wants to hear from you, on skates

Newly elected New Brighton City Council member Brain Strub wants to hear from residents and has devised a way to do that, while getting in some exercise outdoors.

Strub has announced the first of his planned quarterly “skate, bike, run, walk & roll with your city council member” public meetings.

He is inviting any New Brighton resident looking to share ideas, express concerns or ask questions about the city to join him on either Wednesday, Feb. 5 at the Hansen Park ice rink from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. or on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at the Freedom Park ice rink from 6 to 7 p.m.

“As a newly elected official I want to be accessible to the greater community to listen to ideas,” Strub said. “I’m an advocate for our parks and activity and the two just seemed to go together.”

Strub who plays hockey occasionally and has a daughter who is an avid ice skater, said it’s a chance to have an open line of communication in a “non-stuffy setting” and to explore recreational opportunities across New Brighton.

He plans to continue these outdoor public meetings with a bicycle ride in May, a run in August, and a “walk & roll” in November. He said residents not able to attend these events would still have a great chance to have their voices heard by city officials at the April 12 Town Hall Meeting at the New Brighton Community Center, and can contact him anytime at brian.strub@newbrighton.gov.

Strub encourages people coming out to the ice rinks in February for the meetings to bring their ideas, ice skates, hockey sticks and the entire family. If another arctic blast blankets the area again, Strub noted the ice rinks’ warming houses will be a great place to gather.
