Police are searching for Tonya Hale Raleigh, 35, of North St. Paul, who allegedly shot her 18-year-old daughter in the leg early Sunday at a North St. Paul apartment.

The North St. Paul Police Department on Monday, Feb. 10, released the name of a suspect in a shooting that occurred early Sunday.

Monday afternoon, police were actively searching for Tonya Hale Raleigh, 35, of North St. Paul, for allegedly shooting her 18-year-old daughter in the leg after they argued, according to North St. Paul police Capt. Dustin Nikituk. He said the victim was hospitalized in stable condition.

At 4:40 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, officers were summoned to an apartment at 2345 11th Ave., which is about a block east of McKnight Road North and west of North High School. There they found a young woman who had been shot in the leg.

Police evacuated the building at around 9:30 a.m., and residents waited outside in buses for a couple of hours.

The East Metro SWAT Team searched the building with robots, but did not find any suspects.

Police were searching for the shooting victim's mother as well as the victim's boyfriend for questioning related to the domestic disturbance and subsequent shooting. By Monday, police had narrowed the search to Raleigh, according to Nikituk.

He said police spoke to the boyfriend and another person who was in the apartment at the time of the shooting. The witnesses told police that Raleigh apparently fired the shot that hit her daughter, according to Nikituk.

Nikituk said Monday morning that an arrest warrant would be issued, possibly on a second-degree attempted murder charge.

According to state case documents, Raleigh was convicted of a misdemeanor related to a theft in 2012, and apparently another misdemeanor this year related to careless driving under the name Tonya Hale Conger.

Nikituk confirmed investigators are aware of multiple aliases.
