Boys hockey: Pioneers sail past Titans in final of CSC play
Hill-Murray 9 - Tartan 2
In a Classic Suburban Conference boys hockey season finale for Tartan and Hill-Murray Thursday, Feb. 13, at Tartan Arena, the Pioneers showed their prowess with a 9-2 trouncing of the overmatched Titans.
From the Tartan perspective, co-head coach Ray Sierakowski summed up the game, saying, “The better team won. They’re good; very good.
“They just keep coming at you. There is no let up. They don’t lose anything from one line to the next. They’re good,” Sierakowski said.
Hill-Murray head coach Bill Lechner stated, “We’re beginning to come around. The kids are beginning to fit into and accept their roles.
“They are playing for one another. They are showing confidence in their play. They are playing like we hoped they would at this time of year.
“We are much more polished than we were a month ago,” Lechner said. “Now all we have to do is keep the edge as we work our way into the playoffs.”
In the one-sided offensive display, Hill-Murray led the shots on goal 37-17.
The Pioneers were leading 3-0 by the end of one period. It was 5-1 at the end of two and 9-2 at the end of the game.
Gaining points for the Titans were Eric Geskermann and Brady O’Sullivan with a goal apiece. Will Acker and Zach Ledman each had an assist.
Leading the Hill-Murray attack with five points was Josh French. The senior defensive captain had a pair of goals and three assists (2-3).
Close on his heels were Joey Anderson (3-1) and Zach Mills (1-3). Others garnering points for the Pioneers were Dusty Krueger (2-1); Mitch Slattery (1-2); Tyler Funk (0-2); and Logan Sharp (0-1).
