Beacons roll in playoff opener's picture

The Concordia Academy boys basketball team had little trouble in its playoff opener on Thursday. The fourth-seeded Beacons rolled to a 72-34 victory over 13th-seeded Mounds Park Academy in the first round of the Section 4AA playoffs.

Will Preble nearly outscored MPA by himself. Preble poured in 31 to lead the Beacons.

Roger Moore added 11 points and Austin Moldenhauer also reached double figures with 10.

Mounds Park Academy had one player in double figures.

Next up for Concordia is a quarterfinal home game on Saturday at 7 p.m. The Beacons’ opponent is fifth-seeded St. Croix Lutheran, a 67-58 winner over 12th-seeded St. Paul Washington in the first round.

Concordia (14-12) edged St. Croix Lutheran (16-11) 68-65 on Jan. 21.
