Arrests
An April 2 report of domestic assault turned out to be just a lot of yelling and screaming, no fighting, so why did deputies take the male half to jail? Turns out the 24-year-old was wanted on a Ramsey County gross misdemeanor warrant for his arrest for operating an uninsured vehicle and a Hennepin County warrant for theft.

When driving, two headlights are required as well as a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance. A 48-year-old was stopped at Larpenteur Avenue and St. Mary’s Street, cited for those three offenses and taken to jail. The jail part was because of a Ramsey County warrant for the man’s arrest.

A 25-year-old local was removed from her residence April 2 and booked at the Ramsey County Jail on charges of “felony assault, child abuse, felony malicious punishment of a child-substantial harm and gross misdemeanor punishment of a child-substantial harm.”

Burglary
A coffee shop in the 1500 block of Hamline Avenue, morphing itself into a musical wine bar, took a hit April 2 with a overnight forced entry burglary, resulting in the loss of a number of wine bottles, a cash box and a safe. The Ramsey County Crime Lab processed the scene for clues.

Assault
Tenants at an area duplex saw a woman in their backyard April 5 with blood running down her face and a large gash on her forehead. The 40-year-old told arriving deputies that her boyfriend threw her against the wall and then to the floor, causing the gash. A pending charge of “felony aggravated assault causing substantial bodily harm” against the 52-year-old boyfriend is under review by the county attorney. The victim was treated at a local hospital, receiving five stitches.

A pair of 22-year-old males crossing Rice Street at County Road C with the right-of-way in the wee hours of April 12 were “almost hit” by a right-turning vehicle. Gestures were exchanged and one vehicle occupant got out and confronted the pair, repeatedly punching one man from Roseville. The Roseville man then stabbed the attacker. Deputies arrived and the two involved were held on charges of assault pending review by the county attorney.

Criminal Damage to Property
A mom watching her child on the playground in the 2900 block of Centerville Road heard a noise from the parking lot and watched a man tee off on her car window with a golf club. She yelled, he fled the scene and deputies were soon on their way. The object of his attention, mom’s purse on the front seat, survived the encounter. Her window did not.

Thefts
It’s heartening to see teens at the library, but the only research the trio at the Roseville branch on Hamline Avenue April 7 apparently had in mind was obtaining a smartphone. A 12-year-old lad was totally engrossed in his iPhone 4, as many smartphone users are wont to be, when one of the teens grabbed it out of his hands. The youths made tracks for the exit and 911 was called. An arriving deputy spotted the likely suspects nearby, the thief was identified and the “cooperative” 16-year-old St. Paul youth was petitioned into Ramsey County Juvenile Court on a felony robbery charge before being given a ride home.
