Boys tennis: Titans heading into season short handed in doubles play
As the boys tennis season nears the halfway mark of this unusually cold spring, the Tartan High School team has felt the sting of still looking for its first win.
“We are struggling right now,” stated coach Larry Fronczak. “We are limited in experience at our doubles play.”
Senior captain Taylor Anderson has been leading the Titans into battle. Anderson has experience in doubles action and plays in the first doubles spot with senior Nate McDonald.
Another returning senior is Blake Weaver, who is seeing action at third singles.
Others on the Tartan roster are junior Austin Bullard at third singles, and sophomores Nate Reddy at first doubles and Vinh Nguyen at fourth singles.
There are a string of freshmen filling out the Tartan roster. They include: Brody Croonquist, second singles; Ryan Lenard, second doubles; Chris Bade, third doubles; and Matt Zawislak, third doubles.
Assisting Fronczak this season is Jason Arnt.
As Fronczak glanced at the Classic Suburban Conference rosters, he picked Mahtomedi as the team most likely to finish on top of the heap.
Thus far, the Titans have been stopped by Mahtomedi, Washington, Simley, North and Hill-Murray.
The remaining Tartan boys tennis schedule is: April 22 at South St. Paul; April 24 at Central; April 29 at St. Thomas Academy; May 1 Richfield at Tartan; and May 6 Henry Sibley at Tartan. Matches are scheduled at 3:30 p.m.
Due to the uncertainty of the weather this spring, some matches may have to be cancelled. Rescheduled matches may be found by going to: classicsuburban.org.
