Police investigate burglaries at 2 West St. Paul businesses

The West St. Paul Police Department is investigating two recent commercial burglaries, where some cash was taken after hours.

Due to an alarm call, officers were summoned to BYO Burger, 1221 S. Robert St., at 9:35 p.m. Easter Sunday, April 20, according to Lt. Brian Sturgeon.

“The office was ransacked, and some cash was stolen,” he said.

Sturgeon couldn’t say exactly how much was taken, but it wasn’t a “significant amount.”

“It’s basically start-up (cash) for the next day,” he said.

He said the front doors were forced open, but it’s not clear how.

When employees arrived at Hills Floral, 1166 St. Robert St., at 9:16 a.m. Monday, April 21, they discovered the store had been burglarized. They believe it happened sometime between 3 p.m. April 20 and 9 a.m. April 21, when the store was closed, Sturgeon said.

The entry point was a broken window, and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the till, according to the police blotter.

“A piece of concrete was used to smash in the glass door,” Sturgeon said.

Police are releasing a limited amount of information, because the incidents are under investigation.

“We have evidence that we’re processing from both places,” he said.

Evidence includes BYOB surveillance footage, which police are examining for images of any possible suspects, Sturgeon said.

He said it’s not clear if the two burglaries are connected.
