25th anniversary of award marked

The River Heights Chamber of Commerce has named Simons Landscaping its 2014 Small Business of the Year.

Owner Dave Simons and his mom, Patti Simons, company vice president, accepted the award at the chamber’s annual small business luncheon and trade show Thursday, April 17 at Southview Country Club in West St. Paul.

This year marked the 25th anniversary of the River Heights Chamber celebrating this award with the business community, and was sponsored by Town Square Television and Waterous Company.

Member businesses nominated companies, and the chamber’s recognition committee selected the award recipient.

The award acknowledges an organization that has been in business for five years or more, has 20 or fewer employees, has at least two years of membership in the chamber, and encompasses a business that has a commitment to the community through its involvement and assistance to community organizations, to its employees, suppliers and customer relationships, in addition to a commitment to excellence in service, business ethics, friendliness and business operations.

Simons Landscaping is a family-owned business of South St. Paul. It’s comprised of three major divisions with qualifications in both residential and commercial landscaping, snow removal and lawn care management.

According to Dave and Patti Simons, they have a core group of seven employees who are like family to them.

Dave’s long-term vision is to build a company that he can pass down to his kids, if they choose to take it over, according to a statement.

Patti says it’s about having fun.

“If you are going to spend more time at work than you do at home some days, you might as well enjoy it,” she said in a statement.

“We are proud to have operated a small business in this community for the past 14 years,” Dave said. “We look forward to this coming year as our economy is improving for all of us to move ahead and have a healthy and prosperous year. Again, my sincere thanks.”

More information on the award recipient is available through the chamber at 651-451-2266 or online at www.riverheights.com.
