Mounds View sweeps conference track titles
The track and field teams from Mounds View High School spent a couple of productive afternoons at East Ridge High School last week. They were there for the Suburban East Conference championships and both came home with the championship trophies.
The boys team scored 201.5 points and won the title by 45.5 points over runner-up White Bear Lake. The girls secured their title with 194 points to beat out runner-up East Ridge by 31.
In addition the leading the way in points, the Mounds View girls were also tops in individual event victories with six. East Ridge had five and Cretin-Derham Hall captured three.
Senior Olivia Fixsen had her hand in three event victories. She won the 100-meter hurdles and the high jump on her own and teamed up with Mikayla Toninato, Elizabeth Menne and Rachel Boyer to win the 4x200-meter relay.
Toninato, Menne and Boyer were also multiple-event winners. In addition to winning the 4x200, they joined forces with Nicole Geist to capture the 4x100-meter relay.
Veronica Rasmussen also brought home a pair of individual conference titles as she swept the throwing events.
On the boys’ side, Mounds View captured a pair of event victories. Matt Baker had one as he topped the field in the 110-meter hurdles.
The Mustangs other victory came in the 4x100-meter relay as Sola Olateju, Luke Swenson, Denis Li and Michael DeGroot won by 0.12 seconds.
Next up for Mounds View is the Section 5AA state qualifier on Wednesday and Friday at Hamline University.
