North St. Paul hosts officer memorial


The North St. Paul Police Department hosted the Suburban Ramsey County Law Enforcement memorial ceremony at North Haven Church May 12. Remembered and honored May 12 were suburban peace officers from Ramsey County Sheriff’s Department, and the Roseville, North St. Paul and Maplewood police departments. The North St. Paul Police Department served as the host of the third annual Suburban Ramsey County Law Enforcement memorial service, which took place Monday, May 12 at North Haven Church.

The service was designed to honor suburban Ramsey County police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. This dates back as far as 1955, when North St. Paul chief Walter Hause passed away while patrolling in his squad car.
Honored during the reading of the names were: Reserve Deputy Mike Wilken (Ramsey County Sheriff’s Department), Lt. Earl Kennicutt (Ramsey County Sheriff’s Department), Sgt. Roger Rosengren (Ramsey County Sheriff’s Department), Deputy Kenneth Johnson (Ramsey County Sheriff’s Department), Officer Howard Johnson (Roseville Police Department), Officer Bruce Russell (Roseville Police Department), Officer Richard Crittenden Sr. (North St. Paul Police Department), Chief Walter Hause (North St. Paul Police Department), and Sgt. Joseph Bergeron (Maplewood Police Department).
A toll of the bell, honorary wreaths and a special singing of the national anthem and “Hallelujah” were also featured at the service, which was open to the public.
