Mustangs in prime time

The Mounds View High School baseball team takes to the diamond at Midway Stadium on Friday for a prime-time game in the Section 5AAA playoffs. The Mustangs face Maple Grove at 8 p.m. with a spot in the section final at stake.

Second-seeded Mounds View and fourth-seeded Maple Grove are the two teams remaining without a loss in the tournament. Mounds View beat Rogers and Champlin Park to reach this point while the Crimson own playoff victories over Centennial and Totino-Grace.

Friday’s winner moves on the section final on June 4 at 6 p.m. at Midway Stadium and has two chances to clinch the section title and a spot in the state tournament. The loser drops into the loser’s bracket and a game on June 2 at 6 p.m. at Midway.

The June 2 winner advances to the section final but must win twice to gain a berth in the state tournament.

Game 2 – Centennial 6, Spring Lake Park 2

Game 3 – Coon Rapids 10, Park Center 7, 10 innings

Game 4 – Rogers 5, Blaine 4

 

Second round

Game 5 – Totino-Grace 1, Osseo 0, 11 innings

Game 6 – Maple Grove 5, Centennial 4

Game 7 – Champlin Park 4, Coon Rapids 1

Game 8 – Mounds View 6, Rogers 2

 

Third round

Game 9 – Maple Grove 4, Totino-Grace 2

Game 10 – Mounds View 6, Champlin Park 2

Game 11 – Osseo 5, Centennial 4

Game 12 – Coon Rapids 15, Rogers 5

 

Fourth round

Game 13 – Coon Rapids 12, Totino-Grace 6

Game 14 – Champlin Park 5, Osseo 3

 

Fifth round, May 30 at Midway Stadium

Game 15 – Coon Rapids vs. Champlin Park, 5:30 p.m.

Game 16 – Maple Grove vs. Mounds View, 8 p.m.

 

Loser’s bracket final, June 2, 6 p.m. at Midway Stadium

Game 17 – Game 16 winner vs. Game 15 loser

 

Championship round, June 4, 6 p.m. at Midway Stadium

Game 18 – Game 15 winner vs. Game 17 winner

Game 19 – If necessary, to follow immediately
