Damage from heavy rains closes Hwy. 13 in Mendota

Highway 13 (Sibley Memorial Highway) between Second Street and Lexington Avenue near Mendota closed for emergency repairs Tuesday, due to weather damage.

The road is expected to be closed until June 17 between State Highway 913A in Mendota and Interstate 35E in Mendota Heights.

The Big Rivers Regional Trail, which runs from Mendota at Hwy. 13 to Lilydale, closed Monday, June 2, to pedestrians and cyclists after a mudslide left the area impassable.

Barricades were put up to block both the Mendota and Lilydale accesses. Maintenance crews planned to clear debris once the slide area stabilized.

The trail is a scenic 4 1/2-mile paved path that overlooks the area where the Minnesota and Mississippi rivers merge.
