Ramsey County election filings show familiar faces, few challengers

The candidates are all filed for the 2014 general election, and the ballot for East Siders looks like it will have a lot of familiar names listed.

Incumbent Ramsey County Attorney John Choi is running uncontested for a second term.

In District 6, Ramsey County commissioner Jim McDonough, who represents much of the East Side on the county board, is also running unopposed.

Incumbent District 3 county commissioner Janice Rettman is running again, challenged by Girard Goder.

Representing part of the Dayton’s Bluff neighborhood, incumbent county commissioner for District 5 Rafael Ortega will run against Charles Barklind.

Incumbent county sheriff Matt Bostrom is running uncontested.

At the state level, incumbent DFL state Reps. Sheldon Johnson and Tim Mahoney will have Republican challengers in the Nov. 4 election.

Mahoney will run against Andrew Livingston in House District 67A, while Johnson will face John T. Quinn in House District 67B.
