Southview Design breaks ground on new building

Southview Design, one of the top 25 fastest growing landscape firms in the U.S., hosted a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of its future facility in Mendota Heights June 2. Southview Design’s new building will be on a three-acre campus at 2383 Pilot Knob Road.

Mendota Heights city leaders and staff, along with key representatives from Benson-Orth General Contractors, Architectural Consortium, Anderson-Urlacher PA and Southview Design, attended the event.

The building was designed by Architectural Consortium LLC with structural engineering by Anderson-Urlacher PA. Benson-Orth General Contractors is handling construction, which is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

“We simply outgrew the facility we’re in,” said Chris Clifton, president of Southview Design, in a statement. “While we were committed to staying in the area, we couldn’t find a facility that could accommodate us.” Clifton explained that unlike most businesses, Southview Design requires a significant amount of outdoor space for its fleet of vehicles, trailers, trucks and equipment.

“We work throughout the entire Twin Cities metro area and western Wisconsin so we chose a more centrally-located spot for our new home.”

The new facility will be situated on a more than three-acre plot of land that will include 9,000 square feet of office space, plus an 8,000-square-foot warehouse and greenhouse to house plants, flowers and other materials for Southview Design’s fine gardening division. Together with the office building, these facilities total 17,200 square feet. About 40 Southview Design staffers will work in the office building, but Southview Design also employs 85 to 90 seasonal workers who are typically out on the job on any given day.

The plan includes two large rain gardens to manage drainage and contain storm water onsite. For more information, visit Southview Design at www.southviewdesign.com.
