Enjoying the many summertime events in Minnesota
State Sen. Chuck Wiger
Summertime in Minnesota is filled with fun events for everyone to enjoy. From great places to eat outdoors to wonderful festivals, Minnesotans really know how to make the most of the warm weather months.
If you are looking for events all across the state, the Explore Minnesota website (www.exploreminnesota.com) is a wonderful resource. The website will allow you to search for good sites to visit, point to a nice place to stay, highlight great restaurants and locate festivals and events throughout the state.
Of course, one of the top highlights of the summer for many Minnesotans is the Minnesota State Fair. The Fair begins Aug. 21 and continues on through Sept. 1. If you are looking for information on cool events, concerts or the fun foods you will find when you visit, check out the State Fair website at mnstatefair.org.
Many cities and counties host events as well. Check out your local city and county websites to find details on events near you. Some local highlights include:
• White Bear Lake – Marketfest (Thursday nights, 6 to 9 p.m. from June 19 to July 31) and Manitou Days (June 19 to July 4)
• Maplewood – Light up Maplewood Fourth of July Celebration and Plant ID and Lore (Aug. 19 at the Maplewood Nature Center)
• Ramsey County – Ramsey County Fair from July 9 to 13
• Washington County – Washington County Fair from July 30 to Aug. 3
It is a great time of year, so get out there and enjoy! Most of the events are very family-friendly. I encourage you to grab the entire family and enjoy summertime in Minnesota.
