Letter: Sanimax knows 'the importance of being a good neighbor'

To the editor:

South St. Paul is known as a close-knit community where residents, their elected leaders and businesses work together to make sure the city is a great place to live, as well as a great place to work.

I recently joined Sanimax as the general manager of the South St. Paul facility. It’s a family-owned company that has been part of the local community for over 50 years, and employs around 90 people.

We have a tremendous legacy in the recycling business. We reclaim, renew and return animal byproducts into value-added products. Our recycling efforts save valuable resources that would otherwise end up in landfills.

Everyone’s goal is to reduce odors, and we’re working hard to do so. In fact, this year alone we are investing close to $1 million in new odor mitigation technology at our South St. Paul facility. These efforts are in addition to our current chemical oxidation process and constant computer-based technological monitoring of all equipment within our facility.

We know the importance of being a good neighbor, and continue to take proactive and responsive steps to reduce our odor footprint. Sanimax, along with other businesses in South St. Paul, has worked in collaboration with the city and its leaders to address odor issues, and created and sponsored an odor complaint hotline and worked to investigate complaints across the community.

We look forward to helping make sure South St. Paul continues to be a great place to live and work.

Mike Moyer
Sanimax South St. Paul facility general manager
