After helping Mounds View win its second consecutive Class AAA state baseball championship, Kellen Rholl turned his attention to an all-star game appearance. Rholl spent the weekend after the state tournament participating in the All-Star Series.

Rholl and his Metro East teammates went 3-0 on the weekend to claim the series championship.

Rholl started the final game of the series on June 21 against the Metro West squad. Both teams were 2-0 heading into the game so the title was on the line.

Rholl went three innings and gave up one run (earned) on one hit. He walked one and struck out two and did not figure into the final decision. Metro East went on to win 4-3 on a walk-off hit.

Rholl also made one appearance in the state tournament and picked up a victory in Mounds View’s semifinal win over Lakeville North. The Mustangs won that game 2-1 on Ryan Plasencia’s walk-off single that scored courtesy runner Joe Janey.

Against Lakeville North, Rholl went the distance, giving up one run (earned) on three hits. He walked one and benefitted from a pair of double plays.

This summer, Rholl is a captain on the Tri-City Red American Legion baseball team and in the fall he is headed to Texas, where he’ll attend and play baseball for Angelo State University. The Rams are a Division II team and play in the Lone Star Conference.

Huskies also compete

A pair of St. Anthony Village High School athletes also played in the all-star series. Zach Siggelkow and Noah Bluth were members of the Metro West team.

Siggelkow pitched in the Metro West’s 6-2 win over North on June 20. He went three innings, gave up no runs on one hit, walked one and struck out five.
At the plate, Siggelkow went hitless in two at-bats.
Bluth, who took up residence behind the plate for the Huskies the last two seasons as the starting catcher, batted three times in the series. He didn’t get any hits but did walk once.
The Metro West finished second in the series to the Metro East team. Both squads went 2-0 in their first two games and then met for the championship in the final game of the series.
Next season, both Bluth and Siggelkow will be playing college baseball at the Division II level. Bluth signed with Southwest Minnesota State, which is located in Marshall, and Siggelkow signed with St. Cloud State University. Both schools are members of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

Flooding relocated series
The All-Star Series is usually played at Chaska Athletic Park but the rainy June weather caused the ballpark to flood. That forced tournament officials to relocate the series to Storm/Red Bird Stadium at Chanhassen High School.
