The POW MIA 1955 Chevy Dragster will be in the parking lot from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 17 at the VFW in Mendota.
The tribute car, which was built and is owned by Vietnam vet Max Loffgren from California, has the names of all the POWs and MIAs from Vietnam written on the car in the chronological order of when they went missing. Loffgren was at the Back to the 50’s event in 2013 and is coming to the Twin Cities once again to be at the State Fairgrounds for Car Craft Summer Nationals from July 18 to 20. AmVets Post 1 in Mendota is celebrating it founding, which was July 17th, 1982, and is the major sponsor of bringing the car back to St. Paul.
In honor of their anniversary, they will have the tribute car and other classic cars in the VFW parking lot and serving food and refreshments. The 1955 Chevy has a 1,000 horsepower engine and Max will start it up a few times while he is there.
