For members of the Roseville Community Band, July 12 to 15 is more than just the dates of their bus tour--it’s now a period of time when the entire state will recognize their work over the last half-century.

Governor Mark Dayton recently signed a proclamation declaring the four-day stretch Roseville Community Band Days in honor of its 50-year anniversary, which took place in May.

The proclamation, dated June 10, reads:

“Whereas: The Roseville Community Band provides an opportunity for adult musicians to play for personal satisfaction and provides a service to the community ... Whereas: The Roseville Comunity Band has established itself as a top community band in the Upper Midwest ... Now, Therefore I, Mark Dayton ... do hereby proclaim July 12 to 15, 2014, as Roseville Community Band Days in the State of Minnesota.”

The Roseville Community Band has made a splash with its 50th anniversary celebration this year. The city of Roseville declared May Roseville Community Band Month and the band served as the collective Grand Marshal of the Rose Parade during this year’s Rosefest. Per its annual tradition, the band ushered in fireworks with patriotic music in Central Park July 4.

Dan Kuch, who has directed the band for the past 13 years, has also composed a special piece of music in honor of the 50-year milestone. He called it “March of the Roses,” and the band has performed the piece at its summer concerts.

The band embarks upon its 50th anniversary bus tour July 12 and will perform in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, Burlington, Iowa, and Hannibal, Missouri.

Roseville Community Band’s last summer concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, in Central Park.
