Tri-City Red in Gopher Classic final

The Tri-City Red American Legion baseball team has advanced to the finals of the Gopher Classic and will play for the championship on Tuesday at 2 p.m. The game takes place at Veterans Field at Minnetonka High School.

The Gopher Classic, the largest American Legion baseball tournament in the country, has had 96 teams participate in each of the past two seasons.

Tri-City Red won its pool over the weekend with a 3-1 record and won its first two games in the playoff portion on Monday. Red beat Tri-City Maroon 14-4 in six innings in the first round and New Ulm Gold 6-5 in the quarterfinals.

In Tuesday’s first semifinal, Tri-City Red edged Napoleon (Ohio) 3-2 to advance to the championship game. Red faces either Excelsior or Omaha-Millard South (Neb.).
