After winning only two games in 2013, the St. Anthony Village High School football team is off to a 3-0 start this fall. While the Huskies are enjoying the positive start to the season, they are also trying to keep it all in perspective.
Although Irondale High School is now a member of the 14-school Northwest Suburban Conference, the football team still has an out-of-conference game on the schedule this season. That game is Friday against Holy Angels.
In the 2013 regular-season meeting between the Mounds View and White Bear Lake football teams, the Bears scored 45 points and snapped a nine-game losing streak to the Mustangs. The 2014 regular-season game between the two squads was last week and Mounds View got its revenge.
Heading into its game last week against St. Anthony Village, the Concordia Academy football team had lost its last four games to the Huskies. The Beacons have a similar history with this week's opponent.
Although the Irondale High School football team is now playing in the Northwest Suburban Conference and facing teams it hasn't played in a long time -- if ever -- the Knights have a game this week against a team they know very well.
For the second consecutive year, the Mounds View High School football team opened the season with a game at Woodbury, and now, for two years in a row, the Mustangs have beaten the Royals in the season opener.
