Letter: The importance of voting

To the editor:
As  a Maplewood resident for 61 years, I  have been active in the community and was an election judge for 47 years.
On Tuesday, Aug. 11, Maplewood residents will be voting in the Primary Election.  Five people are running for city council and 4 will advance to the General Election in Nov.

Letter: It’s primary time

To the editor:
Many people consider the Primary vote a waste of time, but it isn't. This year we have two new candidates running for the two seats.

Letter: 'Time to think'

To the editor:
Time to start thinking about who you feel are the best qualified candidates to keep Maplewood progressing. Two years ago we elected our Mayor and two other very qualified City Council Ladies and they have done a great job of keeping us on the right track. Thankfully, they have another 2 year term.

Letter: Thanks for the meeting

To the editor:
I want to thank State Rep. Peter Fischer (43A) and State Sen. Charles Wiger (43) for taking time out of their busy schedules to discuss the need to support measures that will increase active living and physical activity among Minnesota’s youth, thereby helping to combat childhood obesity.

Letter: ‘Not smart’

To the editor;
The recent conflict in the North Saint Paul City Council demonstrated the vulnerability of elected officials. How one handles stress is vital to maintaining ones physical and psychological health. While the mayor must retain control of meetings he is obviously wound up during the meetings, ready to vent. Councilman Thorsen's situation was not agreeable to him and Scott did what he knew was right for him, resigned.

Letter: ‘Need a job? Need a better job?’

To the editor:
More than 8,000 Ramsey County residents are currently still officially unemployed (still about 100,000 statewide). They urgently need our help.
Sen. Chuck Wiger is working diligently to pry loose potential new business and good jobs for us. He has introduced a “Creative Freedom Act” (SF 714), which seeks to convert our destructive “Job-Killers” into permanent “Job Producers” – and without any cost to our taxpayers!

Letter: Paintball, lasers quieter

To the editor:
The noise from live firing of police weapons is an understandable irritant to neighbors of the police training facility. I contend that this noise in Maplewood is unnecessary.
The training and practice with actual weapons should be at a soundproofed indoor facility.

Letter: ‘Filling deadly man-made pot-holes’

Who do we thank for the great job of lifting manhole covers to street level on McKnight Road south of I-694? These sunken covers were not only uncomfortable for drivers, they could be deadly.
