No wrapping: 97-year-old’s gift is in song

Around a dozen Edgerton Elementary 4-5-6th-grade choir members made a surpise caroling visit with Cecilia Gresback, a 97-year old Maplewood resident Dec. 16. Next, the singers were off to the Maplewood Mall for a singing engagement.

Carolers sent from across the country
The scene: following a fresh sprinkling of snow, 14 young carolers from Edgerton Elementary School file into Cecilia Gresback’s living room, filling her Maplewood home with song and good tidings. The 97-year-old rocks her chair back and forth and claps her hands, keeping tempo with the carolers as they sing “Holly Jolly Christmas” with a keyboard accompaniment.
Her daughter, Rita Shor, sitting by her side, can hardly keep her eyes dry.

Public feedback helps formulate desired attributes
The District 622 School Board has approved a superintendent profile to be used for recruiting and selecting the district’s next superintendent.  
Superintendent Patty Phillips announced she would be retiring at the end of the school year after 10 years as District 622’s top administrator.

A new generation remembers - photos

Cowern Elementary honored veterans at the all-school assembly Nov. 11. Veterans were invited as special guests, and students and staff were encouraged to invite neighbors and friends, as well as family members who have served. The veterans introduced themselves and their branches of service as part of the program.

Hill-Murray teams with county to build new locker rooms at Aldrich Arena


Ice Arena to construct two new locker rooms for the Hill-Murray hockey program. The James Steele Construction Company of St. Paul is removing dirt and creating a hole measuring 32 feet by 55 feet for the new addition at the county-owned arena. The Hill-Murray boys hockey program has entered into a unique partnership with Ramsey County to build its own locker rooms at Aldrich Ice Arena.
