Academy of BioScience embraces new community While they enjoy their summer vacations, students and teachers from the Academy of BioScience in New Brighton continue to be involved in their school and it's new home. After two successful years serving the community of Columbia Heights, the Academy of BioScience is excited to be making its new home in the city of New Brighton. A charter school serving grades four through eight, Academy of BioScience offers an innovative, personalized approach to educating middle school students in New Brighton and the surrounding communities. Students and faculty are already becoming involved in their new school neighborhood, and hope to form a strong partnership between the school and it's community.
So far this summer, students have been involved in Fridley "49ers Days and Stand for Children Day, and several open houses have been held to tour the new facility and learn more about this innovative school. Students also plan on participating in the Slice of Shoreview, Mounds View Festival and New Brighton's Stockyard Days, as well as helping teachers and faculty move the entire school from Columbia Heights to its new building in August.
The Academy of BioScience offers unique programming such as J-term, in which students are able to pick a topic to study extensively for an entire week with other students from all grade levels, and Science Fridays, allowing students to interact with guest speakers and members of the local science community, enhancing their understanding and excitement of science and related careers. The Academy of BioScience also offers an extended school day and bussing to the surrounding areas.
