Celebrating its 75th anniversary this fall, the School of St. Charles Borromeo will host an all-school reunion on Sept. 27, which will feature the school's first-ever 5K alumni run and walk.
Louis Louiselle, a St. Anthony resident, St. Charles alum and event organizer, presented the route to the St. Anthony City Council at its May 13 meeting. The route would begin on 27th Avenue and take runners down Wilson Street, Murray Avenue, Roosevelt Street, St. Anthony Parkway and Pahl Avenue. Participants would run the route as a loop, four times.
The council approved the route, allotting two hours for the race and asking that the plan be coordinated between the organizers, city management and the St. Anthony Police Department.
"This event will help bring alumni and former villagers back, creating a sense of community and belonging in St. Anthony Village," Louiselle said.
Louiselle explained that a previously planned route involving running on Stinson Boulevard had been scrapped; Mayor Jerry Faust said that involving Stinson would have required approval from the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB), as the thoroughfare is in Minneapolis and falls under MPRB's jurisdiction.
The 5K will begin at 1 p.m., kicking off a full day of events, which will include a reception on St. Charles' lawn from 3-9 p.m., a 5 p.m. Mass, music, food and drink.
Louiselle said she expected 50-100 runners for the race. St. Charles, in its 75-year-history, has 4,500 alumni.
